PROLANDSCAPER PODIUM AWARDS 2019
We have been shortlisted twice for the Pro Landscaper Podium awards 2019. These are for podium products.
The first is our use of air pot plastic rolls as a liner for block planters. After monitoring them over a 10 year period we found the trees performed extremely well.
As much as we can, we are organic gardeners and so no artificial fertilisers were applied to the trees.
Please note Hoheria angustifolia inbetween the two cherries.
The second is Hoheria ‘Stardust’ hedging. We use Hoheria on podiums because it is an active evergreen for most of the year. It is also tolerant of wet conditions and dry conditions. It is far more tolerant of podium environments than Box, Yew or Laurel. Podiums are flat, with drainage from attrition or through drains which are a weakness in the structure. They remain wet for most of the year. Hoheria is a great solution. It is also a very good nectar plant in mid summer. Since acquiring the first stock plants in 2009, we have built up stocks and produce about 3000 plants a year. We released 1000 plants on the wholesale market in 2017 and in 2018 we released 500 on the retail market through Hayloft Plants in attempt to increase the plants profile. We have supplied specimens to the catering areas of the Chelsea Flower Show and Hampton Court Flower Show (see below) and the EE tent at Glastonbury.
We are probably the largest grower of Hoheria in the world!
For Prolandscaper Podium Awards we profiled a development called Lexington. We used 2.5m heavy hedging plants to provide a screen for residents.
